Open House

Hi Room 9 Families!

Thank you so much for coming to see your child's classroom last night!  They worked very hard and were extremely proud of their work.

Several parents mentioned that they would like to purchase a copy of The Best Part of Me book.  I contacted Mrs. Liu, and she said she could put in another order as soon as a 40% discount is offered.  If you are interested in ordering a copy, please email me and let me know if you would like a hard or soft cover book.  With the discount, the soft cover is about $22 and the hard cover is about $31, including tax and shipping.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Chase

End of Year!

Hi Room 9 Families!

This year is moving very quickly!

We will have Olympic Finals on Friday morning starting at about 8:45.  Students have selected the events they want to compete in and every student has chosen at least one event.  If you're available, come on over and cheer them on!  Please make sure your child has athletic shoes and sunscreen on before they come to school.

I've attached a flyer for the end of year pizza party.  We'll have the party at about 11:30 on the last day of school.  We are asking for a $2 donation for the Cardboard Carnival, and a $3 donation for the pizza party.  Please return the $$ in an envelope labeled with your child's name and what the $$ is for.

We start our geometry unit in math tomorrow - 2-D and 3-D shape fun!!

If you haven't already, be sure to turn in your In N Out order forms for Open House.  Open House will be on May 18th, but the online auction is already open for bidding!!  http://www.32auctions.com/Wilson2017

See you soon!

Friday!!

Hi Room 9 Families!

Today was a crazy, wonderful day!

Another giant thank you to our amazing Wildcat Volunteers!

I gave the students math homework, but it is not due until Tuesday, so if you have fun plans this weekend, please don't worry about the homework.  Also, I forgot to explain to the children that they don't have to measure the items listed on the page if you don't have them at home.  Simply cross off the picture and write what they measured instead.  (Not everyone has rollerblades at home!)

Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs. Chase

So much going on!!!

Hi Room 9 Parents!

We finished our unit on Clocks and Time this week, and will be looking at Measurement and Geometry for the coming weeks!

We will move into our Government Unit in Social Studies following the test on Producers and Consumers next Tuesday.

Room 9 students have been busy reverse engineering your donated electronics.  Then they knolled the parts in three different ways.  They are now re-engineering the parts into cool "Steam Punk" sculptures!  A big shout out to Donovan and Tyler's moms for helping us with this adventure!  On the next announcement, I'll share a couple of photos of their work.

We are focusing on leveling up to the next reading level in Language Arts, and each student has their own strategies they are working on.

We finished writing our silly stories about Stanley and Spring Break, and will move back into Opinion/Persuasive Writing next week.

Spirit Awards are at 1pm on Friday.

Hope you are having a lovely week!
Mrs. Chase

Nearly Spring Break!

Hi Room 9 Families!

Spring Break is approaching quickly!!

We have a special Flat Stanley assignment going home on Wednesday.  Please review it with your child so they can ask me any questions or get clarification before the break.

We will start practicing telling time for our new math topic!  Over break, try to find opportunities when your child can practice telling time.

There will be no additional homework over Spring Break so that your child can enjoy time with friends and family!

Best,
Mrs. Chase

Report Cards

Hi Room 9 Families!

Trimester 2 Report Cards went home today.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.  I am bringing my grade book home over the weekend, and I'd rather you check with me rather than ponder for several days.

We are in full swing learning about landforms!  Also, we have gotten several donations of screwdriver sets, so we are ready to take some things apart!!

We have begun learning to write opinion papers that include reasons and examples for their opinion statement. Writing homework will reflect this new genre starting next Friday.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Mrs. Chase

So much going on!

Hi Room 9 Families!

There's a lot going on, so I'm going to bullet point the items:

  • Thursday night is the Talent Show with an encore on Friday at 8:45am
  • A parent survey went home today.  It should only take a couple of minutes, and would help me out a lot! Due Monday 2/27.
  • Auction $$ envelopes are due on Friday.
  • VIP Lunch - Friday - please make plans with a friend if you are unable to come and let your child know where to meet up
  • Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday.  An additional flyer went home today with a lot of $5 book options for Math and Science books.
  • We are studying money, so if you can, let your child count the change that's in your pocket, purse, drawer, etc.
That's all for now!

News

Hi Room 9 Families!

I can't believe it is the middle of February already!  Thank you so much for all of the Valentine wishes and treats; and for your quick response in getting cereal and tissue boxes - they were very creative in their designs!

We've begun our lessons on safety with tools for our reverse engineering unit, and will begin taking things apart and studying them in the next couple of weeks.  We are still in need of varying sizes of screwdrivers, and broken appliances.  If you have anything you'd like to donate, it would be welcome!

We are finishing up our unit on habitats this week, and will begin studying erosion next week.  We are also finishing up our information writing in the next couple of weeks and will shift to writing opinions.   We continue to make gains in our reading, and have begun our new individually paced iReady reading program on the Chrome Books.

We've had several VIP's come through our classroom, and our mayors and deputy mayors, Ethan and Katie our January leaders, and Ezra and Ryan our February leaders, did an amazing job of giving them tours of our classroom!

Speaking of VIP's!  VIP lunch is Friday, February 24th.  If you are unable to make it, please let your child know ahead of time, and if possible, coordinate with another family so that your child can join them.

Thank you for all you do!
Mrs. Chase

Valentine Boxes

Hi Room 9 Families,

I saw a really cute idea for the kids to put their Valentine's in on Tuesday.  If you can spare an empty Tissue Box or Cereal/Cracker/Cookie box or two, we would greatly appreciate it.  (Yep.  Another one!  We turned the other boxes into Biography Cereal Boxes).

Also, another friendly reminder that Scrip Orders are due tomorrow, and that our Student Council is selling Valentine Grams for 50cents - through Friday.

Thanks!
Mrs. Chase

Scrip Orders and Open Space

Hi Room 9 Families,

Scrip orders are due on Thursday.  They will be available for pick up on Feb. 16 and 17th.  If you haven't tried this before, it is an easy way to support our school programs.  If you need a new order form, send me an email ([email protected]), and I'll put it in your child's folder on Wednesday.

San Gabriel is developing a new Parks and Open Space Master Plan.  Room 9 students compiled a list of items they thought would make a great park.  I was able to attend one of the focus group meetings last night and share their ideas.  The company that is compiling ideas (GreenPlay) offered to share all of their Power Point presentations and data with our class to follow the outcomes of the study!
